Damien grew up in Launceston, Tasmania:     pop: 60,000; cinema: 1. It was there, as a teenager at the local film society, that he fell in love with movies. After completing an Arts/Law degree in Hobart, he moved to Sydney to take up a position on the Classification Board at the Office of Film and Literature Classification. He started writing and directing film soon after he arrived, and having made a few shorts, he enrolled in a MA in Directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Since graduating he has written and directed several award-winning shorts that have screened at festivals worldwide including Venice and Busan, Sydney and MIFF, as well as online as part of YouTube/Scott Free’s inaugural Your Film Festival. Damien’s first feature, the survival thriller KILLING GROUND, had its world premiere at the 2016 Melbourne International Film Festival and its international premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival in the iconic Midnight Section. The film will be released in Australia in 2017 by Mushroom Pictures and sold internationally by Films Distribution. The film will be released theatrically in the US by IFC Midnight.
